i knew as soon as i saw the cover i had to read this book and wow it did not disappoint! one of my fave books from 2022! this extremely fun and unhinged novel is about the final four women of a very popular bachelor-esque reality show and what happens when they travel to a remote island in the pacific northwest to film the finale, catching the attention of a lonely female sasquatch desperate for connection and community of queer women willing to do anything to protect her.
A whirlwind romp careening toward a last-girl-standing conclusion, and a scathing indictment of contemporary American media culture, Patricia Wants to Cuddle is also a love story: between star-crossed lesbians who rise above their intolerant town, a deeply ambivalent woman and her budding self-actualization, and a group of misfit islanders forging community against all odds.

maggie's protectiveness of patricia as another love letter to her late wife kathy and the island that was a safe harbor and home to them. the parts of maggie/kathy's love story we didn't get to see, the times they felt safe enough to be out and in love, the proposal, their marriage, making a home on otter's island & being embraced by the queer community there.
epistolary fic! one of my favorite parts of this novel were maggie & kathy's letters to eachother. so how bout more lol. 5 letters/notes from kathy that maggie saved & the one letter maggie never got to give kathy.
